Self Help Groups

Our work in the communities has brought about the establishment of many self-help groups.   These groups are mostly made up of women who are extremely underprivileged. Each group typically has about 20 people.   Each group elects its own leader as its representative.  They start a bank account in a Nationalized bank with the assistance of Bangalore City Mission. They gather periodically to discuss programs and how they will be able to save money.

When they have saved a considerable amount of money at the bank, they can then take loans from the bank to start small businesses.

Such groups not only have helped in providing moral support, but also have helped in building dignity and self-esteem in these women.  This project has worked in a very excellent way in helping the women to support not only themselves, but also their families.
